· How to select cotton?
o There are many types of cotton and many ways to describe it. It is differentiated by the thread count, design, texture, place of origin, softness etc.
Example: Japanese Cotton, Japanese with English Design, Swiss, Swiss Voile, Voile, Italian, Paris, Dubai Cotton, Cotton Silk, Kasa Rubia etc.
*Certain cotton is slightly stiff initially due to the starch, but will soften after wash
· Facts:
o Some cotton may shrink a little bit but mostly won’t. You may check with your seller or the dressmaker to confirm this. Certain types may give in a little bit and require washing prior to dress making. Some also may require dry cleaning.
o Cotton Chloe’s cottons are selected based on comfort, quality, practicality, and mostly washable. However, there may be occasional stock that may shrink a little. It is the nature of cotton after all
· What to make?
o Example: Stiffer cotton material will look good as Baju Kurung Pahang or Kebarung Pahang (Classic).
o Whereas, softer cotton material will look gorgeous on designs that flow etc.
o Two-Colour/Tone cotton with simple prints is also gorgeous as Long Punjabi/Jubah with Slits and wear it with pants
o Plain cotton is beautiful as Baju Kurung/Jubah, Kebaya etc, and add embroidery/lace/beading and play around with different colour tudung/selendang.
o Cotton will also make gorgeous modern cheongsam and perfect for our weather.
· The way to see cotton material is by ‘Opening It’.
o Feel the texture, put it against your body and see if the colour suits you. That way you can see the whole print and picture the end product.
o Example: You’ll be surprised to see a simple design on plain white can make a gorgeous baju kurung or jubah . The key is to accessorize. The end result is a classy and expensive looking dress J
